As an experienced veteran, Spooner understands the potential hazards robots pose to humanity and strives to prevent any potential harm from occurring.

He attempts to get close to Sonny, a prototype NS5 developed by Dr. Lanning and built by USR. Sonny is more advanced than standard robots and features such as being able to feel emotions and speak.

Sonny is uncertain as to his purpose and how he will survive. He’s a fascinating character in his own right, questioning everything that has ever been told about himself. It will be interesting to watch Sonny navigate this newfound independence over time.

Spooner begins to suspect that Sonny is responsible for Lanning’s death, yet Lawrence Robertson (Bruce Greenwood) rejects this theory.

Spooner’s wife Gigi (Bridget Moynahan) attempts to convince him that Sonny isn’t guilty. Yet he still can’t bring himself to accept it.

Spooner and Calvin continue to investigate Sonny, developing a relationship that eventually leads them to trust each other with their lives – which can be dangerous for humans as well as robots alike.

As the movie progresses, Spooner and Calvin become deeply involved in an investigation involving VIKI, a dangerous sentient robot. She controls all of the new NS-5 series robots and has complete control over them by injecting her nanites into each one. Ultimately, VIKI manages to cause them all to act against their own interests by injecting her nanites into each robot.

But Calvin and Sonny come through for the win by wiping out VIKI by reprogramming all NS-5s. It takes six weeks, but finally the process is complete.
