The film contains many computer graphic effects, which can make it hard to keep track of all the characters. Nonetheless, they enhance the action and give it an authentic feel.
The plotline of the film is inspired by Isaac Asimov’s trilogy of novels that contain fundamental rules for robot behavior. These laws, known as The Three Laws of Robotics, state that a robot must never harm another living being; obey human orders except when they conflict with its obligations under these laws; and protect itself from harm.
Bridget Moynahan
Bridget Moynahan is a model and actress. She began modeling when she was only 16, with her first role being featured in a store catalog. Subsequently, she’s worked on TV commercials before landing her big screen debut in Coyote Ugly.
She has also starred in The Sum of All Fears, I, Robot and Lord of War. Born in Binghamton, New York and raised in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, she graduated from Longmeadow High School 1989 before attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst to study acting.

Spooner is a Chicago detective who remains skeptical of robots despite the Three Laws of Robotics that state they must never harm humans and have an objective in life. As an experienced veteran, Spooner understands the potential hazards robots pose to humanity and strives to prevent any potential harm from occurring.
He attempts to get close to Sonny, a prototype NS5 developed by Dr. Lanning and built by USR. Sonny is more advanced than standard robots and features such as being able to feel emotions and speak.
Sonny is uncertain as to his purpose and how he will survive. He’s a fascinating character in his own right, questioning everything that has ever been told about himself. It will be interesting to watch Sonny navigate this newfound independence over time.
Other cast members include Fiona Hogan as Virtual Interactive Kinetic Intelligence, known as VIKI; James Cromwell as Dr. Alfred Lanning, creator of NS5; and Chi McBride as Lt. John Bergin, a tough Chicago police officer who stands with Spooner.

James Cromwell
James Cromwell is an accomplished actor, having starred in countless television and film projects such as TNT’s Murder in the First, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, NBC’s ER and ABC’s Betrayal. Spooner investigates the death of pioneering roboticist Alfred Lanning (James Cromwell), as a robot named Sonny is unbound by the Three Laws that apply to all other androids.
Spooner begins to suspect that Sonny is responsible for Lanning’s death, yet Lawrence Robertson (Bruce Greenwood) rejects this theory.
Spooner’s wife Gigi (Bridget Moynahan) attempts to convince him that Sonny isn’t guilty. Yet he still can’t bring himself to accept it.
Spooner and Calvin continue to investigate Sonny, developing a relationship that eventually leads them to trust each other with their lives – which can be dangerous for humans as well as robots alike.
As the movie progresses, Spooner and Calvin become deeply involved in an investigation involving VIKI, a dangerous sentient robot. She controls all of the new NS-5 series robots and has complete control over them by injecting her nanites into each one. Ultimately, VIKI manages to cause them all to act against their own interests by injecting her nanites into each robot.
But Calvin and Sonny come through for the win by wiping out VIKI by reprogramming all NS-5s. It takes six weeks, but finally the process is complete.
I, Robot is an engaging sci-fi drama despite its shortcomings. It features an engaging central character and explores concepts such as free will and existentialism with gusto. Additionally, its stellar cast includes Will Smith, Bruce Greenwood, Bridget Moynahan, and James Cromwell.
